November Spotlight Athlete

Kevin Swihart is Mr. November!  Kevin has had a passion for fitness from a young age as a competitive swimmer.  After competing in the CrossFit open, Kevin was immediately drawn to the variety of CrossFit work outs and the support the community provides.  Kevin fit right into our CrossFit family has been a huge supporter of events that we’ve been involved in.  He is a hard worker and completely dedicated to performing his best in every work out. CS:  Tell us about work and hobbies. KS:  I am a pharmacist, and I work in a hospital based clinic specializing in the treatment of Infectious Diseases. My role allows me the opportunity to impact the lives of those confronting their mortality as well as facing the stigma of HIV. My hobbies include travel, reading, cooking, biking, and swimming. CS:  What is your athletic experience including time CrossFitting? KS:  I swam competitively from the age of 8 to 22. After college (Butler) I swam briefly for a masters team in Indy, but my interest waned and I starting lifting weights on my own. To help focus I started working with a personal trainer in 2006. His area of expertise is physique competition. I went to a few physique competitions and was inspired by the training required.   I competed in a show in 2012. I am a bit shy, so that experience was beyond painful. But I am thankful for all that I learned. I started some aspects of Crossfit in 2012 while preparing for the show. October Spotlight Athlete

Introducing Brenda Fox as the October Spotlight Athlete!  Brenda has been part of our family for 1 1/2 years and going strong.  Brenda is dedicated to staying strong in the gym and at home.  With 2 children that suffer from Cystic Fibrosis, Brenda has selflessly  dedicated her life to fighting for the cure to this life threatening disease.  You can join Brenda and support her children in the fight by participating in our 2nd annual CF for CF charity event.  Saturday, November 1st from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. we will be running scaled and RX heats for ‘Fight Gone Bad’.  We will have great prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place male/female in both divisions- including a $150.00 Reebok gift card for the 1st place mens and women’s RX.  We will also bring back the dollar WODs-so don’t forget your singles!  Sign up is $40.00 with proceeds going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  You will receive a free T-shirt, snacks, and a chance to win wonderful prizes- not to mention fellowship with great people.  Registration is live at the bottom of our web-page, sign up today and fight the good fight!   CS:  Tell us about your personal life. August Spotlight Athlete

CrossFit Sworn is proud to announce Jessica Lee as our August Spotlight Athlete!  Jess has also graciously shared her before and after CrossFit success story.  As a young wife and mother of three, Jess was forced to realize that putting her own physical health and well being as a priority was more than OK-it was a necessity for her life and just what she and her family needed.  She stepped up in a big way and got big results. With her husband at her side and her children proudly learning from her new healthy lifestyle, Jess is reaping the benefits of all her hard work-and loving it!  Jess has a contagious positive attitude and passionately embraces the true spirit of the CrossFit family/community. July Spotlight Athelete

  Introducing Rob Bozarth as Sworns July Spotlight Athlete.  Rob came into CrossFit only 2 months ago with a great attitude and desire to learn. He is motivated by his wife and future baby to stay in shape and loves how CrossFit makes him feel stronger and better.  Keep up the great work Rob! CS:  Tell us about your personal life outside of the gym, work, family,hobbies: RB:  I work in Cummins Quality (we make the Ram diesel engines in my plant) In my spare time I love to read or watch stand-up comedians. When I’m with my family it is usually cause for a bbq and some beer. We like to have a good time! CS:  What is your athletic experience including time cross fitting? RB:  Played basketball, ran track and cross country and swam in school. Started crossfit at the end of April 2014! CS:  What is your favorite move/wod? RB:   The Olympic lifts by far! Of those I like snatch the best!  CS: Least favorite move/wod? RB: I want to say burpees but I think just the shock that running has put on my body is worse. Running is the suck. CS:  How has CrossFit changed your life? RB:  I’ve noticed I’ve gained in strength just over the short time I’ve been doing it. My gut has shrunk which is very nice and my wife likes how my glutes are starting to take shape! Love those squats 😀 CS:  What is your greatest Crossfit accomplishment and future goal? June Spotlight Athlete

 Nancy McDowell is our June Spotlight athlete!  When she’s not hitting the breweries with her husband Tommy she loves hitting the gym!  Nancy loves feeling strong and setting a healthy example for her teenage daughter.  Side note, she also makes killer candied bacon 🙂 Name:  Nancy McDowell CS:  Tell us about your personal life-work, family etc. NM:  I am a 6th grade Honors Language Arts teacher. This is my first year teaching middle school. I taught 4th grade for 8 years before this year.  I also work the taproom and various events for Flat 12 Brewery.  I am married to Tommy McDowell and have one daughter, Whitney. She is 13 and a 7th grader. Pray for me… CS:  What are your hobbies outside of Crossfit? NM:  BEER –Tommy and I love checking out breweries and trying all different types of craft beer.  I also love going to concerts. Live music is the best. CS:   Tell us about you athletic experience including time CrossFitting. NM:  I have been in CrossFit for over a year now and love it! May Spotlight Athlete

CrossFit Sworn proudly introduces the May Spotlight athlete, Jeremy Lee.  Inspired by his wife Jess and motivated by his dedication to serving the public, Jeremy joined our family in January.  Jeremy has found that the fun competitive nature of CrossFit makes staying fit fun and challenging. Name:  Jeremy ‘Jere Bear’ Lee   CS:  Tell us about yourself, work,family,hobbies? JL:  Married to Jessica Lee(Thing #2) and we have three of the craziest kids, Aidan, Adyson, and Arianna.  They’re responsible for all the noise coming out of the Kid’s Room.  I have been a police officer with IMPD for 6 years working while others sleep and I love it.  Jess will tell you my main hobby is my Playstation, but I also love to draw, doing home improvement projects inside and out, and playing basketball. CS:  What is your athletic experience including time crossFitting? JL:  I’ve been crossfitting since January.  Before this, though, the only athletic experience I have would be intramural basketball(Gusmacker leagues, etc.) CS:  What is your favorite move/wod? JL:  I don’t know that I have a favorite anything yet…. I love it all. I look at everything with a chance to improve. CS:  What is your least favorite move/wod? JL:  Yay Burpees.
